What do you think needs to be implemented/fixed next?

Can you share in the comments, please? Need some ideas for inspiration. Big features like moving to cloud are not an option - they require a lot of effort and investment, so a hard to start ones. But if you think there's 1 small thing that can be and should be fixed in the next update, please right in the comments. Will see which one is feasible and will try to work on it next.

  1. Hi, I would like to be able to organise tasks and projects on my desktop.
I use this app to great satisfaction at work, and would like to add tasks while working on my desktop.

    Best regards,
    Robert Broeke

    1. This is why I stopped using the app, I found I need one that syncs seamlessly between my desktop and mobile device. Not being able to use it on my laptop/desktop was unfortunately a deal breaker as it was my most favorite task management app.

  2. Just started using the app again (never got far with it)

    1) Some way to easily see overdue tasks
    2) The ability to see the next 7 days worth of tasks (separated by day) in a single list (preferably with overdue tasks at the top).

    1. I think tutorials / wiki / You Tube would be great. I just started working with the app and I like what I see but I know I have some questions (e.g., idea behind Workodoro). Aside from my personal need, I think others would benefit from some basic overview / instructions. App looks very promising.

  7. Hello,

Thanks for making this app! It is pretty helpful to me.

The first thing I would love to have is a way to display my tasks on my he screens. Maybe via a widget?

The next thing is more of a how to to use this thing. A video would be super helpful for me. Would also like more documentation on how to use it.

Thanks and please keep up the great work.

    1. IIRC there's an extensive guide on how to use the app in detail, exactly on this blog.

For viewing on the screen, there is a widget already that you can use (I suggest the widget displaying the Eisenhower-matrix).

  8. Please let me see

I'd like to view smartphone with black background Since I want to care my eye health. So I've used with black background and contrasted letter.

But when I try to choose a goal in action, I can't see goal's letter.
Because there are white letters on white background.

Can you change that background to black one for black theme color.

  12. Desktop version please with sync. Really really needed and asked for for ages.

  13. Well... I don't know if it concerns everybody, but my Sync is broken since almost a year.

I've stopped relying on the app because of that ; I can add stuff but can't be sure it will be backed up.

Accessing the Sync it says "Connected" but immediately later it returns "Error loading time from server, null".
And the Push doesn't work anymore (probably for the same reason); it get stuck on "Please, wait" and the spinner.

I'd try reinstalling but I dunno if that will make me loose all the new tasks/actions that I couldn't push in the last year (apologies for reporting it just now ).

So I would say that a "Manual export as file" button would be a lifesaver.
I could at least backup, uninstall/reinstall and put the exported file on GoogleDrive again to be restored, in case the bug is fixed.
Supposedly is not a big implementation, since the export to .bcp is already there; it would be just about saving the file locally (I assume there's a simple Android API for that?).

Or... maybe I can find the DB directly on my phone via a file-mananger?

    ---

The second (not too big) thing, that would still improve reliability, is.... to open source your work.

At the moment MyEffectiveness is simply the conceptually most solid app out there in its field (I hate all that start-up shit with subscription to companies that I can't be sure will still be there in 5-10 years; am I the only one?).

And it's practically free, so I don't see why not opening it to the public and to contributors.
(you don't need to commit to supporting people, nor you have to keep an "Issue" session on the repository)

It would be a great pity to loose such a useful codebase (with A LOT of congruent decision making already done!), in case the developments dies (no developer can maintain an app forever, and priorities in life change), or in case Google dies, or its PlayStore (maybe with Fuchsia?).

And it would open the doors to a broad range of possibilities.
From contribution, to bug fixing (yeah, I know, never enough PR from people), improvements.
And it might lead to also a cross-platform version (I would need nothing else in my life then ), or to a standardised API for integration with other apps.
I mean, I could read and debug the above mentioned issue myself and just tell you what needs to be fixed, instead of reporting a generic error.

It would be great if you could summarize your points for not going open-source.

I just hope it's not shame for the code quality! (I'd feel you! But I think the quality doesn't matter given the greatness of the achievement! )

    ----

However, I am open to discussing in private, eventually contribute to development, or help with translation.
And.... I just paid an ad-month free to say a little Thanks; given that you aren't gonna get any money from me on ADs as long as I can't use the app sync

  15. I would love a web app or desktop app to be able to use my effectiveness on my computer. I've been using it for at least three years, and that's the main feature i've been missing.

For the moment, i run an emulator of an android tablet on my computer and sync/unsync from google drive to sync it with my phone, but it's not the ideal.

I guess that one of the biggest problem on creating a desktop app is that there is not a server with the info to keep both of them synchronized. Maybe an intermediate solution could be that when you open the desktop app, it checks the modification date of the uploaded file to google drive, and if it has updates, it could download it automatically (or maybe first asking the user). Then, when you want to exit the app, it asks you to upload it to drive (and of course you could push it any time you want). When you open it in your phone the process would be the same, it can check if it has been updated on drive.

Of course there would potentially be a problem of conflicts, in that case, to simplify, in a first version it could just let you choose if you want the local or the remote version.

If you want, we can discuss these or other ideas to make this app even better.

    1. I second this. Been using the app since 2017 and almost exact same thoughts and preferences.
I'd be happy to pay for a web app version, that I can sync with my phone app, even if it's a manual push-pull/import way of syncing. And/or a CSV import/export.

  16. Hey, just got my hands on this app. It's awesome, but having a cloud sync would be awesome. Not having this is the only thing keeping me from committing to using this app fully.

I'm worried that if I misplaced my phone or something happens to it, I'll lose all of my goals and projects without a way of getting it back.

Have you thought of getting with you subscriber base to see if they'd pay for the sync feature?

    I know I would.

I'd definitely pay a monthly / yeah fee to have this feature

    1. Did you check the "Sync" function that is directly in the main menu?
You can push to Google Drive and pull on another (or the same) device.

It's already supported since many many years ;)

  17. Hi. Excellent app, Thankyou. Would it be possible to add an audible feature to the Workadoro so that one could hear a tic-toc sound as the seconds tick by. I found that very motivating on another Pomodoro that I tried. The sound made it very obvious that time was ticking by, and that I better get hustling with the task at hand. Thankyou.

Vielen Dank!
