We are thinking of adding some ads to a limited number of screens or a subscription for some advanced features in the coming versions of the app. Ads look ugly usually, so subscription is probably the way to go, but in the beginning ads will do. We'll try to make them the least annoying possible.
This will be done not to simply make money, but mainly to try to find some way of motivation for the further development of the app. It still lacks many wanted features, but we don't have resources to develop it - during the last half a year I was so busy with other things, that there was no single update of the app and we even got letters from some of you asking if everything is ok :). Thank you, by the way - it was really touching!
The app helps to solve the problem of being unproductive to a degree and thus gives little motivation to put aside other life problems and invest time and effort into it.

If the model comes to be livable, than we'll be able to devote more time and advance it. If not, we'll revert the 'monetization' attempt and leave the app as-is, but with little to no improvements probably.
I like your app very much and I would happily pay for the Premium price only once including all the features.
ReplyDeleteBut if you go towards the "subscription" route like some other apps(which I find ridiculous) have done in the past I myself is most of the other users won't follow.
It's a quality up with many useful features but subscription is a no-go.
What about ads? Would you be ok with them if they are not that annoying?
DeleteNot sure why subscription seems ridiculous. If an app has an integration feature, that'd mean they have to use some servers, which all cost money for just having them, not counting the work.
I am using Evernote since 3 years now. It is a subscription payment. And this is your answer.
DeleteBut I have not been able to use your app due to lack of features, you find in wunderlist, todoist, asana, trello etc. though I find your app extremely innovative and feel it seriously needs some development to sustain and live upto users' expectations.
I find subscriptions is really good way to start with it. But it needs to be integrated with trial version and then some incentive schemes. I am not sure, how you do it. It is your call.
Let me assure you, all of those who do not want subscription option should come to your app, will come back to subscribe it.
I think, if you can build a road map and share it over the blog. I sincerely hope with your new features, this app helps users grow high on productivity. All the best.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH!
DeleteThank you for sharing your time and expertise in creating this app. I'm in total agreement with others advocating for a paid subscription vs ads. This app has the capacity to improve the quality of life and productivity for individuals impaired by ADD or ADHD. Ads are a distraction - particularly in this population. Whereas, I'm all for altruism, it is unfair for one individual to be expected to take on the entire burden for the benefit of others. The comment suggesting that ads would be a "deal breaker" and subscriptions "ridiculous" illicited feelings of doubt as to the authenticity of the anonymous author's sentiments. It IS ridiculous to expect quality for free. I do, however, have an alternative suggestion for funding your endeavor: you may want to consider applying for a grant. There are endless organizations & foundations both public and private that have been established to support research, advocacy and tools to improve the quality of life, prevent, solve, cure conditions and/or diseases ranging from diabetes to poverty, access to water and more. Understanding that grant writing as well as finding an appropriate foundation to match the need is both time consuming and requires experience, I believe it is a viable option to consider. Once again, thank you for your efforts thus far.
I just started using the app and would much rather prefer to pay for an add free version. If there is a once off it would be more preferred but do get the whole subscription argument. Do not like the ads, not as annoying as on others so well done on that but ja much prefer just buying an ad-free π
ReplyDeleteAdds are annoying and sometimes make the app look unprofessional. Although it depends on the design and where you put them. Anyway your app is cool and I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying for it.
ReplyDeleteFrankly I badly need a mobile app integrated with desktop app. It should integrated with tasks created in trello, Google keep, wunderlist, Microsoft planner and many such apps.
ReplyDeleteIt should include a dashboard on my progress and tell me where I m lacking.. Many many such thoughts..
I also would like it to integrate with a desktop app. it is time consuming to type goals etc into MyEffectiveness. Also, to switch back and forth between devices during portions when my work is on my laptop increases my interruption and distraction.
DeleteI love the app. Do not stop developing, please. Will buy one time subscription, do not like idea with the adds.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for great app! I would definitely pay for premium version. But one time payment, not a subscription. I did not analyze why subscription is so repelling but for sure they are. 100% of all apps where I was willing to pay and paid were one time payment.
ReplyDeleteFor advanced features, would be great to have desktop version.
Hey, good job for this app which work wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI have an issue. I want to set a weekly action with a reminder every monday but be allowed to plan this action in a later day. I do my weekly plan every monday. But, the action appear inevitably the day of the reminder and not the day i plan it.
Best regards,
I have found apps that i really really like and would have purchased but if they contain ads i just cant use them and i always uninstall them because of ads. Ads often start small but often in short time when there is decent fan base more come in an and the apps gets annoying . If you can have both version , for some they like ads for me i buy it rather than using an app with ads. My2cents , regards Elvar

Please dnt make it as a paid app
ReplyDeleteMaking it a paid app rather than subscription would be great. This is a very good concept and I hope you continue to develop it for a premium paid app. All the best.
ReplyDeleteHi, I like your app a lot, but as a starter on this I find it difficult to use the app on the phone, and would be awesome to be able to use on the laptop as well (broader view, broader mind) and synchronize with the phone. Do you think it could be a posibility?
ReplyDeleteSome apps have the basic and the pro version, one is paid, the other has non invasive adds or just a bit more basic version. You've fallen on a demand product here! Everything I could want on a productivity app has already been suggested in the comments above. I'm looking forward to your progress and offers. Best of luck and success to you!
ReplyDeleteI would gladly pay to remove ads.
ReplyDeleteI am ok with one time payment or a small subscription every month or year. But i don't like ads.
ReplyDeleteYour app is deserved to be paid.
I am waiting the web or pc version.
Pleaseeee.
I love this App! I have tried many different varieties and none of them are put together as well . Please do not stop developing. What is needed is a translational method to have this App on my mobile and on my computer. Speaking for myself I would gladly pay for a PC version of this App.
ReplyDelete+1 for a subscription here. The small ads aren't that bad, though a yearly subscription would be a great idea. I would love to see the further development into the future and am willing to help support it's progress. For those that can't afford a small investment each year could support via ad revenue.
ReplyDeleteI think a mix of subscription and ads is great. 2 important things are lacking, auto sync across devices and an iOS version. Maybe some other improvements but i think those are most important. Also web version.
ReplyDeleteIve used every productivity app on both platforms and nothing comes close. Seriously, this is so well rounded and thought out, I would gladly pay a reasonable subscription price.
Make sure to have a free ad supported limited version, maybe without syncing & exporting feature to get people hooked. Thats my two cents. Good luck.
Thank you for investing your time and brain power to develop and share this app!
ReplyDeleteTo make it win-win with ongoing funding and incentives for the developers, any user who would pay $25 (USD) as a "one time" fee, ought to be very happy with 3 subscription options of: $1/mo, $10/year, and $25 for 3 years. (3 simple choices, perhaps with a free 90-day trial to attract new subscribers, and minimize concerns of existing users).
The past (free) versions have achieved a long-term successful "Proof of Value" and it makes sense to provide long-term funding and incentives for the developer(s) to professionally maintain and enhance the app.
I loved using (and paid for) earlier tools such as "ACT" (on DOS then Windows), Action Names and Agendus on the Palm OS, and would gladly pay for the opportunity to effectively use MyEffectiveness for the foreseeable future.
Most people are conditioned to pay no money for apps, though the alternatives of ads (probably more distracting to this community) and indirectly paying with their information are problematic.
The privacy controversy of data mining of usage, etc. is ugly and risky. Despite the echo and 20 year evolution of: “You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it.” (1999, Sun CEO Scott McNealy), user data privacy and confidentiality are certainly important considerations.
If you,the developer, are interested in considering, discussing or brainstorming alternatives, reply and we can connect: I would be happy to share insights drawn from over 25 years of professional Software Solution Sales.
Even though that software licensing experience has mostly been for users at large corporations, for Enterprise use cases, I am very familiar with creating win-win value, and have also professionally advised business owners and individuals as a financial fiduciary.
Thanks again for the difference you are making and cheering for your ongoing success.
