FC close issue on Habits

Two last updates caused the so-called FC (force close) issue with the app. Got a lot of compains, really sorry that happened. We just found the reason and will roll out update in a while. The problem is with the latest update of the software we use to create programs, the IntelliJ Idea 11.

If going into technical details, it built the application slightly different from the way it did it in previous version, thus causing some errors when using the app. The update will come soon. Sorry for inconvenience.

Update: it looks like the JetBrains (producer of the Idea 11) was aware of the issue and created a patch update  yesterday night :)

My Effectiveness Habits

I've come across a great book about personal effectiveness: "The 7 habits of highly effective people" by Stephen R.Covey. I was so impressed by the book that I wrote an app to apply principles given in the book. Published on the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andtek.sevenhabits

JustExpenses: currency support

Have received several feedbacks about the ability to change the currency. I haven't thought about that when writing the program, just used the default android settings. My phone uses default locale, so shows currency of the country I'm in. It looks like it's time to change that and give people ability to choose between currencies.

A-to-Z Notes

It looks like I'll not have time to support these apps: A-to-Z Notes and A-to-Z Notes Free. They do basic functionality I need, they don't have enough popularity to be supported. I'll add one or two more features, then will unpublish them.

J'Ex: new feature

Just have returned from holidays, getting back to work. Stayed for 3 weeks in another country. And there I have found out that a simple calculator is absolutely necessary to be used in the JustExpenses. When being there I used to buy stuff in local currency and had to constantly try to multiply it by 1.33 (exchange rate) to get the expense amount in my basic currency. So, I thought that it would be great if I could just write: 13 * 1.33, press "Add+" and the expense would be written: 17,29. I missed this feature very, very much, that decided I will do it as soon as I return. And it is almost done.

Another scenario when this feature is useful is when you buy several things but don't want to write each separately, just add them all under "food" or "clothes" name. You would then be able to write: 13 + 43 + 12.

J'Ex update

updated JustExpenses with 'Date-range' functionality. Because of the hurry didn't test properly and missed two bugs, that were on the surface and that were introduced accidentally, again, because of the hurry. Had to update the app2 times in 20 minutes. Sorry for annoyance caused. And thanks to Vitaly for pointing out one of the bugs!

JustExpenses: day range

Working on adding a day range filter. Coming out soon

JustExpenses: bug - FIXED

Have just uploaded minor version with fix for the bug - now app widgets must survive system reboot

JustExpenses: bug

I found a bug with recent feature implemented in the JustExpenses: the QuickTag widget - if you, for some reason, reboot your phone, widgets do not restore their state.

To be frank, it was a surprise for me when I found it after my phone went off due to battery discharge. I'm looking into the issue and the fix will be out soon. Meanwhile, if you faced the problem you just need to recreate the widgets.

And, of course, you can post other things that bother you or you want to enhance, here, in the comments. Or, at ksasdk@gmail.com

New android app: True Loan Rate Calculator

Have just uploaded a new application to the Android Market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andtek.wetnose.ecp - True Loan Rate(formerly, True Borrowing Cost). TLR helps you to compare real costs of loans (mortgage, mainly) in different banks: it is a relative measure. It calculates loan annuity and differential payments.

TLR takes into account a lot of different parameters that banksIt mainly reflects Russian mortgage system, but math is same across the world and many if not most loan calculations are same also, so you can apply them locally. Please, feel free to ask any questions.

JustExpenses

Idea behind the application is to have an application which is quick and pleasant to use, has nothing disturbing in control and UI. I tried to make it maximum unobtrusive, which, I think, I succeeded.

One of the things I like is the paging through expense screen by finger. It is not ideal, but it really cool and one of the things other applications don't offer.

Meet the JustExpenses:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andtek.just.expenses

+ It has just what you need to track money spent

+ pleasure to use: no extra elements on screen, nice paging
+ quick: write down expense in 2 types + 2 clicks
+ easy
+ it IS powerful enough: sorting, filtering, grouping

A-to-Z Notes

A-to-Z Notes (paid version: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andtek.reference, free, ad-aware version: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.andtek.reference.trial) is a type of notes archive (I used to call it reference, "A-to-Z notes" is a marketting name), with simple, yet highly effective grouping system: all the notes are added to a Letter of an Alphabet.
This way, you can easily find your note, months after you put it there, enough that you know what it is about.
I have similar system on my PCs, applied as part of the GTD, in the form of folder/files.

The application currently implemented with the minimal functionality: just adding, seeing, editting notes. I didn't have much time during last days to work on it, but I plan to improve it to make it fully-functional. Among the things I want and plan to add, ordered by priority from highest to lowest:

  • photo notes
  • audio notes
  • sd card backup
  • search
  • widget

These are the main big steps. Some enhancements planned to current state:
  • decrease the number of movements in reaching the desired note
  • settings: ability to set default language
  • ability to quick add note from other applications using the "share" menu
The last three are suggested by Robin, and I'm very grateful for that.

Known bugs:
+ scrolling issue in View mode still not fully resolved - will add the fix with one of the major releases

All and any suggestions/complaints/thanks/hellos are welcome and can be added to this message as a comment or on the ksasdk@gmail.com

You can also support it, if you like the app, by giving some stars on the Android market. Thanks!
